Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) is software for editing digital photos. The program represents a digital darkroom and is primarily used to develop raw data such as those typically generated by digital cameras and some compact cameras . The target group are professional photographers and committed amateurs who do not want to rely on the automated development of the camera manufacturer.

ACR / Adobe Camera Raw is the basic part of Photoshop and Lightroom . As the successor to Display, it takes over the complete development of the digital RAW files (analog to an undeveloped analog DIA / negative) to the finished digital image. ACR was first introduced in Photoshop in 2003. Adobe applications that support ACR include Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, After Effects, and Bridge. ACR / Adobe Camera Raw includes, among other things, the “Adobe Color Engine” (ACE) plug-in, developed by Thomas Knoll, which enables the color processing of RAW files in Photoshop and Lightroom. Adobe Color Engine (ACE) is used by almost all Adobe products for color management. Adobe Camera Raw (2.3 or later) supports RAW files in Digital Negative (DNG) format, a publicly available RAW file format from Adobe.
