Adrian Burnett

Adrian Burnett (* in New Zealand ) is an Australian ballet dancer and choreographer .

Burnett completed his training as a ballet dancer at the Australian Ballet School in 1987 and became a member of the Australian Ballet in 1988 , to which he was a senior artist , choreographer and ballet master until 2010. In 1992 he became a solo dancer in the ballet of the Basel Theater . In 1995 he created his first choreography for a workshop of the Australian Ballet . In 1999 he received the Lissa Black choreographic Award and, with the support of the Australia Council, was given the opportunity to perfect his training as a choreographer in the USA and Europe. In 2011 he received his Masters in Arts and Entertainment Management from Deakin University .

A choreography for a joint performance by the West Australian Ballet and the Australian Ballet received a Green Room Award in 2002. In 2003, Burnett and David McAllister directed the Australian Ballet's 40th anniversary program. As a freelance choreographer, he has worked for the Dutch National Ballet , the Houston Ballet , the Singapore Dance Theater , the New York City Ballet's Choreographic Institute and the Royal New Zealand Ballet, among others . As a guest choreographer for the Sydney Dance Company , he worked with Rafael Bonachela in 2009 to develop his ballet We Unfold and the resumption of his work 360 for an Australian tour. As assistant to the artistic director of the Scottish Ballet, he took part in the revival of choreographies by Glen Tetley and Twyla Tharp in 2013 .

For many years Burnett has been associated with the Genée International Ballet competitions , for which he created new works in 2002 (in Sydney), 2009 (in Singapore) and 2012 (in Wellington) and in 2016 as a guest coach in Sydney. In 2011 he became Program Manager of Dance at the Australian Council and has been its Director of Dance since 2015 .
