As adularescence (Verb: adularisation ) is referred to the bluish-white, planar shimmer, predominantly in the gemstone -Varietät of orthoclase (Adularia), the so-called moon stone , occurs. The light reflections seem to run over its surface when the stone is moved and are particularly emphasized by the cabochon cut.

The adularization is generated by the lamellar structure of the moonstone crystal , which forces the incident light rays to interfere , that is, depending on their position, by superimposing them to reinforce or weaken each other.
