Advance Shipping Notice

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term delivery advance notice or advance ship notice ( ASN ) refers to an electronic document that contains detailed information about a pending shipment.

A supplier can use it to inform a customer about the delivery before the goods physically arrive so that he can make the necessary preparations in his warehouse. This includes, for example, reserving storage spaces and predictive planning for further processing of the delivery. An ASN typically contains the information from the original order . There is also information on package numbers, detailed descriptions of the contents of the packages and logistical information.

ASNs are generally exchanged via EDI ( Electronic Data Interchange ). The German counterpart to the ASN is the delivery notification , the dispatch notification or DESADV according to the EANCOM standard.
