Affect gemination
Affektgemination (Latin affectus "emotional impression, passion" and geminatio "doubling"; also expressive gemination) occurs when syllables are doubled in children's language ( Mama , Papa , Dada ). In adult language, consonants in pet names are doubled ( Ulli from Ulrike or Ulrich , English Peggy as a diminutive to Margaret ). Like word doubling, expressive gemination is a special form of reduplication .
