The Afghan rupee was the currency in Afghanistan until 1925.

history

Before 1891 silver rupees circulated alongside copper fils and gold mohur . However, trading these three metals was difficult as there was no fixed exchange rate between them. In addition, different regions issued their own coins.

A new currency was introduced in 1918. It was based on the Kabul rupee. It was divided into 60 paisas of 10 dinars each. Further denominations were shahi (5 paisas ), sanar (10 paisas ), abbasi (20 paisas ), quiran (30 paisas ) and tilla and later the amani at 10 rupees each.

Banknotes

Banknotes were introduced in 1919. There were banknotes with denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100 rupees.
