Albert Pick (born May 15, 1922 in Cologne , † November 22, 2015 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) was an expert in the field of paper money . The Standard Catalog of World Paper Money , which he initiated , has been the standard work for paper money collectors around the world since 1975.

Live and act

Pick began collecting banknotes and emergency money as early as 1930 . He studied philosophy, literature and history. In 1946 he founded the Cologne University Press and worked as managing director until it was sold in 1964. When his private collection of 180,000 notes at the time became too extensive for a private collector, the Pick collection was taken over by the Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechsel-Bank . Pick supervised and expanded the collection from 1964 to 1985 as a curator for the bank. The collection was brought into the HVB Stiftung Geldscheinsammlung in 2003 . He was also a sworn expert on paper money.

The name of the pick numbers goes back to Albert Pick . This is a number system with which collectors can clearly identify and identify each banknote.

In addition to his best-known work, the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money , Albert Pick published numerous books at home and abroad and received several international prizes and awards for his publications.
