Ursula Kampmann studied Ancient History , Pre- and Early History , Near Eastern Archeology and Medieval History in Munich and Saarbrücken with a special focus on ancient numismatics. In 1991 she was awarded the numismatic and historical theme The Homonoia connections of Pergamon in Saarbrücken doctorate . Ursula Kampmann established herself as a journalist in the numismatics department while she was working as a coin dealer. Her articles have been published regularly since 1996 in the MünzenRevue , which she has been editor-in-chief since 2002. In the meantime, many other international magazines are also printing their work, in English, Norwegian, Romanian and Swedish. Spanish, Czech and Russian can be translated. Between 2001 and 2005 Ursula Kampmann worked as a freelance secretary of the International Bureau for the Suppression of Counterfeit Coins (IBSCC) of the International Association of Professional Numismatists (IAPN). In this capacity, she published numerous articles on modern coin counterfeiting.

Ursula Kampmann is the founder of the international numismatic online magazine MünzenWoche / CoinsWeekly.

Ursula Kampmann works at the interface between scientific numismatics, coin trading and journalism. She gives lectures to scientists, but also to collectors. Her work includes not only books, but also radio plays, videos and exhibitions such as “The Zurichers and their Money”, an exhibition by the Swiss National Museum in the Bärengasse Museum, and “KleinGeld” in the Berlin Mint . Ursula Kampmann was awarded the Vreneli Prize in 2002 , in 2003 with the Honorary Prize of the Society for International Monetary History , Frankfurt, and in 2015 with the Burnett Anderson Award of the American Numismatic Association, the American Numismatic Society and the Numismatic Literature Guild. Ursula Kampmann is a Fellow of the American Numismatic Society.

Ursula Kampmann represents the right to collect coins privately. Since she is one of the few personalities who not only has a scientific education, but also knows the world of trade and archaeological excavations, she has been invited several times as a speaker at international congresses on the protection of cultural property, for the first time in 2004 for the colloquium "Who owns objects? "hosted by St. Cross-All Souls Seminar Oxford. In 2015, Ursula Kampmann initiated an online petition entitled “For the preservation of private collecting” as part of the reform of the cultural property protection law by the Ministry of Culture and Media.

criticism

Today Kampmann is an important lobbyist for the private collecting of coins - the business basis of her employer. She has been criticized internationally for denying the destruction caused by robbery excavations and the role of the antique trade in the terror of the Islamic State . In the meantime it turned out that the Islamic State never actually financed itself to a substantial extent through the trade in stolen antiquities.
