Honorary award of the Society for International Monetary History
The honorary award of the Society for International Monetary History (GIG-Ehrenpreis) has been awarded annually since 1974 by the Society for International Monetary History (GIG) to outstanding numismatists .
Board members and other members of the society can nominate candidates with a corresponding numismatic background. They should have published work that is useful for numismatic science, but specifically also for collectors; Nationality and career, on the other hand, are irrelevant. The prizewinner is elected by a majority at a meeting of the board. The award winner is expected to give a presentation on his work on the day of the award.
In addition to the GIG honorary award, the German award for numismatic research is the Eligius Award, which has been awarded annually by the German Numismatic Society (DNG) since 1996 .
