Ulrich Klein (Numismatist)

Ulrich Klein (born October 7, 1942 in Stuttgart ) is a German numismatist .

After working as a classical philologist at the University of Tübingen, Klein worked from 1981 to 2007 as a numismatist and head of the coin cabinet at the Württemberg State Museum in Stuttgart. He represented the state of Baden-Württemberg in the Numismatic Commission of the States in the Federal Republic of Germany . 1981 to 2012 he was chairman of the Württemberg Association for Coin Studies .

Klein wrote several standard works on the history of coins and money in the Swabian region . In 1993 he and Albert Raff received the honorary award of the Society for International Monetary History for joint publications . On his 65th birthday and his retirement in October 2007, the Württemberg State Museum dedicated a medal created by Peter Götz Güttler to him. The independent jury of the German Numismatic Society , chaired by Albert Raff, awarded him the Society's Eligius Prize for 2017.
