Afonso Domingues (* 14th century in Lisbon , † 1402 ) was a Portuguese architect of the Gothic style .

Life

From 1388 until his blindness in 1401 and his death in 1402, he directed the construction work on the monastery of Batalha . The floor plan of the church, the sacristy and parts of the royal cloister ( Claustro Real ) are based on his design . Domingues served the poet Alexandre Herculano as a literary model for the story A Abóbada in his Lendas e Narrativas .
