Africa's Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises Award (also for short: SMME ) is an annual competition by the South African Africagrowth Institute for medium-sized companies on the African continent. In Afrikaans the competition is known under the name Afrika Klein, medium- en mikrogrootte-ondernemings (short: KMMO ).
Since it was first presented in 1998, the SMME Award has developed into the most important and currently only business award on the African continent. The SMME awards are divided into six categories among the 25 most successful companies there. A last one will be selected from the respective winners of all categories, which will ultimately receive the Africa SMME of the Year Award .
Conditions of participation
To participate in the SMME Award, the following criteria must be met:
- Fill out and send in the Africagrowth Institute's online participation form by July 31 of the respective year at the latest.
- less than 200 employees
- Sales between R 40,000 and R 10,000,000
- Headquarters in Africa
- Registration in the commercial register of an African country
- The company must have been in business for at least two years
- Company cannot be a branch of another company
