Aganglionosis

As aganglionosis an innate is lack of nerve cells in the intestinal wall called, usually in the rectum and / or colon . The result is a permanent contraction in the transition zone to the normal intestine with disturbance of intestinal mobility ( peristalsis ), a stool and a massive expansion of the intestine in front of it, so-called megacolon .

Intramural ganglion cells of the submucosal plexus and myenteric plexus ( in the wall of the rectum and the sigmoid colon , less often of the entire colon) are affected .
