National Agency for Research

The Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR) is a government agency that promotes science and research in France .

The research organization, based in Paris , was founded on February 7, 2005 as a public interest group ( groupement d'intérêt public ) and transformed into a public-law institution ( établissement public à caractère administratif ) on August 1, 2006 . It finances research projects by public research institutions and private companies. In 2009 the ANR introduced a code of ethics. The facility has a budget of 955 million euros (as of 2009).

Jacques Stern was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ANR from 2007 to 2010, followed by Eva Pebay-Peyroula.

In 2014, the previously two-part leadership consisting of a director of the administrative board and a director general was transferred to a joint president's office. The first president was Michael Matlosz.

After Arnaud Torres was appointed interim president in July 2017, Thierry Damerval took over the office of president of the ANR in December of that year.
