Agfa Movex

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With Movex designated Agfa all cine cameras having a lens with a fixed focal length, other than the system Family . From 1963 they were replaced by those with zoom lenses, which were then called Movexoom . An exception was the Movex SV Automatic , which, regardless of its name, had a zoom lens.

8mm cameras

Agfa Movex 8

As the first 8 mm device from Agfa, the Movex 8 appeared in 1937 for 145 RM . It weighed 750 g and only worked at the standard speed of 16 frames / s, driven by a spring-mechanism motor as was customary at the time. At their Agfa Kine-Anastigmat f / 2.8 with 12 mm focal length, it was a fixed focus lens with a working range of 2 m to infinity. This camera used the Agfa Movex film cassette, a user-friendly system with a 10 m film supply, in which the unwind and take-up reels were next to each other - similar to the later Single 8 system. This film cassette could be bought ready-made.

The Movex 8 L variant from 1939 could be recognized by an unmistakable selenium cell below the lens, namely the first narrow film camera with semi-automatic exposure control: the selenium cell moved a pointer, which had to be brought into line with a second by turning the aperture ring, to get correct exposure.

After the war, Agfa offered the Movex 8 L again for 435 DM. A film cassette filled with black and white film cost 9.60 DM, filled with Agfacolor color film 13.50 DM.

Movex 88

Agfa Movex 88

The designation 88 on the Movex 88 from 1956 should indicate a double-8 camera, i.e. a 16 mm film was first exposed on one side and then, after exchanging the coils, on the other. Since the Movex cassette did not catch on, Agfa had to switch to this common but less practical assembly with open reels.

The 88 had an Agfa Kino Anastigmat f / 2.5 with a focal length of 11 mm. It was a simple camera, still with a spring mechanism and no exposure control. Instead, there was an elaborate adjustment aid on the side of the camera housing, which could be used to find the right exposure for the prevailing light conditions. The camera ran at the usual 16 frames per second for normal 8 , but could also expose individual images for cartoons.

The Movex 88 L version had an Agfa Movexar f / 1.9 with a 13 mm focal length and a semi-automatic exposure control using a selenium cell and tracking pointer in the viewfinder.

The Movex Automatic has a fully automatic exposure control. The two batteries required were housed in a cover under the two coils.

Movex Reflex

The Movex Reflex from 1963 was also a double-8 camera. Its specialty was the unusually long endurance run of over two minutes at 16 km / h and the fact that it could be equipped with a bayonet connection with both a fixed focal length and a zoom lens could. For the Agfa Movestar f / 1.8 with a focal length of 13 mm, Agfa offered the Curtar and Telegonar attachments for wide-angle and telephoto shots. The zoom lens was the Variogon f / 1.8 with a focal length of 7.5 mm to 37.5 mm, manufactured by J. Schneider according to Agfa specifications. With the zoom attached, the camera weighed 700 g more than with the Movestar . The Reflex belonged to the upper price segment, with the zoom lens it cost 1,195 DM.

According to its name, it was a reflex camera, the exposure was fully automatic, but could also be switched off. The aperture was reflected in the viewfinder, it could be closed completely for fading in and out. The camera worked with special reversible cassettes, so you could fill several of these cassettes beforehand and then quickly turn and change them while filming. It was a compromise solution after the Movex film cassettes failed to gain acceptance.

A spring mechanism made the transport. In addition to the usual 16 frames / s, the 24 frames / s known from sound film were also available, as well as 32 frames / s and 48 frames / s for slow motion display and 8 frames / s as well as a single frame switch for time lapse. You could also rewind the film to crossfade.

Movex S Automatic

In 1966 - apart from the Family system - the last Agfa film cameras with a fixed focal length appeared; they used the newly released film cassettes for the Super 8 system . The Movex S Automatic was aimed at laypeople, which is why it did without focusing with its fixed focus lens and had automatic exposure control. The film was transported with an electric motor. The Movex S Automatic cost 298.80 DM with a film cassette, batteries and a clip-on film light.

Movex SV Automatic

With the same housing as the Movex S appeared Movex SV Automatic . Although it was not called Movexoom , it had a zoom lens, albeit only with a double change in focal length, namely the Agfa Vario f / 2.4 with a focal length of 10 mm to 20 mm. The Movex SV Automatic cost 398.80 DM as a set according to the Movex S .
