The story of the question of agio and disagio , which is said to have been asked in an oral final exam, is a modern legend at universities and colleges in German-speaking countries, which is also mentioned in books.

content

A business or economics student is asked in his final oral exam what agio is. However, he cannot answer the question, whereupon the examiner informs him that he has failed. The student is indignant and reminds that he is entitled to three questions, whereupon the examiner asks him: “What is disagio ? What is the difference between agio and disagio? ”Since the student cannot answer these questions either, he failed.

distribution

The story is often told in freshman circles , mainly in business studies. Following the character of modern legends, the narrator did not experience the story himself, but learned it from a friend of a friend . The place of the story is usually your own, but sometimes also another university, not infrequently in the immediate vicinity.

origin

Several variants for the origin of this legend are circulating on the Internet. The University of Hamburg is often given as the place of origin. Likewise, the story exists in various collections of student jokes.

Truthfulness

In view of the characteristics of the degree programs, the truthfulness of history is highly questionable today. For example, many universities of applied sciences do not take oral final exams at all. Likewise, the scope with only three questions for a final examination appears to be very small, but not completely unusual.
