Agostic interaction

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term agostic interaction was first coined in 1983 by Maurice Brookhart and Malcolm LH Green for the intramolecular interaction of CH bonds with transition metal centers of complexes . The term is now much broader. This is generally understood to mean binding interactions between binding electron pairs and electron-deficient ( Lewis acidic ) atoms in complexes or in molecular compounds of electropositive elements. Intermolecular interactions and interactions with main group and 4f elements can therefore also be referred to as agostic interactions.
