The Artemis is a tall ship. It has three masts and a barque rigged.

history

The Artemis was built as a whaler in Norway in 1926 . It has a steel hull. The ship was used for whaling in the Arctic and Antarctic until the late 1940s.

In the 1950s, the ship was converted into a cargo ship and used until the 1990s.

In 2001 a Dutch group of investors bought the ship. The new owners brought the traditional sailing ship under the Dutch flag and began an extensive restoration. The entire interior, all technical systems and the drive were renewed. 16 cabins were installed for passengers, including seven cabins for three people and nine cabins for two people.

In July 2017, the North Church chartered the three-masted barque or the former whaler for one month in order to be able to visit all 13 church districts of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany on the occasion of the Reformation anniversary in 2017 , "plus the Northern Schleswig community of the German minority in southern Denmark ." In At that time, up to 1,500 members of the regional church sail on the "Nordkirchenschiff" in order to reach all church districts via the sea route.

In June 2019, the Artemis was used on the Lower Saxony Day in Wilhelmshaven .
