Training to become an agricultural service master (ASM)

Agrarservicemeister is a state-recognized advanced training qualification aimed primarily at managers in agricultural contracting companies. Building on the training to become an agricultural service specialist , farm managers and employees can train to become agricultural service masters in two winter semesters. The aim of the master craftsman training is that the master craftsman candidates deal with the business management figures of the company and can evaluate them accordingly. The focus is on the analysis and corresponding assessment of the business relationships of a company.

Contents of the training offer

The time frame for the master craftsman's training is a total of around 840 teaching hours and is divided into 3 sub-areas:

  • Plant production, process and agricultural technology, services : soil, fertilization, plant protection, environmental protection, silage recovery, feed production, feed quality, analyzes, process technology, logistics, operational planning, workshop and data management, pricing, customer orientation, marketing, market and competition, cooperation, office organization and management, EDP, Internet
  • Operations and corporate management : accounting, bookkeeping, business administration, financial and liquidity planning, cost calculations and planning, costing, controlling, taxes, insurance, legal issues, traffic, occupational safety, business development planning, time management, risk management, negotiations, complaints
  • Vocational training and staff management : Check training requirements and plan training, prepare training and hire trainees, carry out training, complete training, determine personnel requirements, select and hire employees and assign tasks to them, guide, lead, promote and motivate employees and support their professional development

requirements

According to the "Ordinance on the master craftsman's examination for the recognized advanced training qualification agricultural service master and agricultural service master" (of August 18, 2010, changed on May 21, 2014), anyone who

  • A successfully passed final examination in the apprenticeship as an agricultural service specialist and at least two years of professional experience
  • A successfully passed final examination in another recognized agricultural training occupation and then at least three years of professional experience
  • at least 5 years of professional experience

in a contractor / an agricultural service company, crop cultivation with service offers or comparable companies. According to a decision by the vocational training committee, the prescribed professional practice must be fulfilled by the day of the last examination. In exceptional cases, further exceptions can be made (regulation in Lower Saxony). Details of the content and the legal and organizational handling of the master craftsman's examination are set out in the "Ordinance on the master craftsman's examination for the recognized advanced training qualification agricultural service master" and the "Examination regulations for the implementation of advanced training examinations". Participation in the preparatory courses is voluntary.

Funding opportunities

There are various ways of receiving financial support for master craftsman training. In addition to the Meister-BaföG, for example in the form of a low-interest loan, there are other funding programs in the individual federal states.

Emergence

The training to become an agricultural service master has been established at three locations in Germany (Kleve, Loccum, Triesdorf) since the implementation regulation was published in August 2010. In the meantime (as of December 2017) 225 young people have taken part in the training. In the future, the BLU is anticipating growth of up to 50 agricultural service masters annually.
