history

Since many qualified specialists were lacking in the course of the Soviet new land campaign in the early 1960s , the university was founded as the Agricultural Institute of Western Kazakhstan by a decree of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR on July 19, 1963 . Initially there were three faculties at the institute for the departments of agricultural sciences , veterinary science and agricultural mechanization, with 302 students enrolled in the first year after it was founded. The facility was expanded to include additional faculties in the following years. In 1975 a small university campus with student dormitories, a library and a cafeteria was opened.

On May 7, 1996, the college was renamed the Agricultural University of Western Kazakhstan . Four years later, in February 2000, it was affiliated with the West Kazakhstan State University . In November 2002 it was separated from the university again and became an independent university again as the Agricultural University of Western Kazakhstan . In 2003 it was named after Schänggir Chan .
