The Air Force Achievement Medal (German Luftwaffen-Leistungsmedaille ) is an achievement medal of the armed forces of the United States , which is awarded for military merits to younger officers and crew ranks when the Air Force Commendation Medal cannot be used.

All branches of the armed forces have their own achievement medals; the Air Force Achievement Medal is intended for military service in the Air Force .

The first Achievement Medals were created by the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard in 1961. The Joint Service Achievement Medal has existed since 1981.

Multiple awards are shown with golden or silver oak leaves .

In the Order of Precedence, Achievement Medals rank below Commendation Medals, such as the Joint Service Commendation Medal and above the Commandant's Letter of Commendation and Combat Action Ribbons.
