Academy of the art of fencing in Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Akademie der Fechtkunst Deutschlands e. V. (ADFD) is the organization of fencing masters in Germany .

The ADFD sees itself as the successor to various organizations in which fencing masters have worked over the past six centuries. It was created in 1952 at the time of the prohibition of the student scale as a spin-off from the Association of Fencing Masters (VdF). The ADFD was newly founded by Oskar Adler. Presidents after him were Gerd Meyer and Walter Kling. Since 1988 the ADFD has been led by Mike Bunke.

The ADFD conducts training courses, the highest qualification of which is that of the fencing master. The training to become a fencing master includes sport fencing as well as scenic fencing (stage fencing) and an introduction to academic fencing . With a total number of 600 hours, it lasts approx. 18 months and is carried out on extended weekends. Today the ADFD also works closely with the Association of Fencing Masters, which mainly deals with academic fencing.

The ADFD publishes the journal Fechtkunst .
