Action ethnology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Action ethnology or action anthropology ( Anglo-American action anthropology ) describes the approach of an intervening and value-explicit practical ethnology , which deals with contemporary and socio-political research topics. In cooperation with disadvantaged ethnic groups , she tries to change social conditions as well as to gain relevant knowledge for ethnology. The groups with which the researcher works in a relationship that is as equitable as possible can be indigenous peoples or, for example, cultural subgroups from their own society. The following focal points result from the approach of action ethnology:

  • the question of the responsibility of the scientist
  • the questioning of power structures
  • the questioning of the postulate of "value neutrality"
