Al-Aqrab prison

The Al-Aqrab prison , also Al-Aqrab , German "the scorpion", is a notorious torture prison in Egypt . The official name is Tora Prison 992 Most-Security . The prison, built in 1993 under Interior Minister Habib Al-Adly , is located in Helwan , south of Cairo .

It has around 320 cells with around 2000 inmates. Former inmates report torture with sticks, cables, or electric shocks and rape. Opponents of the regime are imprisoned.

The prison was already notorious during the military rule of the dictator Husni Mubarak .
