al-Lu'lu ' ( Arabic جزيرة اللؤلؤ Jazirat al-Lu'lu ' , DMG Ǧazīrat al-Luʾluʾ' Pearl Island ', English Lulu Island ) is an artificial island around five kilometers longabout 600 meters off the coast of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates .
The six square kilometer island is located northeast of the city across from the Corniche and was built as a breakwater until 1992 to protect the main island of Abu Dhabi from storm surges.
Al-Lu'lu 'has no bridge connection with the mainland and can only be reached by boat.
