The al-Wasat ( Arabic الوسط, DMG al-Wasaṭ ) is an independent Arabic-language daily newspaper from Manama , Bahrain .

It was founded in 2001 by Mansur al-Jamri . and is the country's largest opposition newspaper.

In the wake of the 2011 protests in Bahrain , the Ministry of Information banned the newspaper on April 3, 2011. The reason she gave was "unethical" reporting. The online edition was also blocked. It was allowed to appear again on April 4 after the founder and editor-in-chief Mansur al-Jamri as well as the managing director and the head of the domestic affairs department had been dismissed. Abidli al-Abidli was appointed as al-Jamri's successor.

On June 3, 2017, the Ministry of Information prohibits further publication of the newspaper. According to the state news agency BNA, al-Wasat published an article that attacked “a fraternized Arab state” and thereby endangered “the relations of the Kingdom of Bahrain with other states”. According to the editor-in-chief, Mansoor al-Jamri, it is about a column on protests in Morocco . In 2011, editor-in-chief al-Jamri received the CPJ International Press Freedom Awards .
