Allen "Al" Milgrom is an American comic book writer and illustrator.

Life and work

Milgrom began working as a full-time comic book artist in the mid-1970s. First major attention he received in 1974 when he was awarded the Shazam Award in the category "Outstanding New Talent" ( Outstanding New Talent ). He achieved his artistic breakthrough in 1978 at the latest with the science fiction series Firestorm , which was published by DC Comics and whose main character, the student superhero Firestorm, he developed together with the author Gerry Conway .

In the 1980s, Milgrom as a draftsman mainly designed booklets for superhero series in the Marvel Comics program . He drew for the series The Avengers (1983–1985), Kitty Pryde and Wolverine (1984–1985) and Secret Wars II (1985–1986). In addition, he expanded his range of activities in the mid-1980s and began to work as an author. He made his debut as a writer in 1984 as the author of the series Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man , which he subsequently supervised for a year. In later years, Milgrom took over writing jobs for the series Incredible Hulk (1986-1987), Mephisto (1987) and Amazing Spider-man (1991).

In addition to his work as an author and draftsman, Milgrom also worked as a publishing editor and ink draftsman. As an editor, he co-ran Epic Comics, an in-house imprint of Marvel Comics , with Archie Goodwin in the 1980s . He also oversaw the Marvel Fanfare series in this capacity for the first ten years of its running (1982-1992).

As an ink draftsman, he worked on the design of booklets for well-known series such as Cable , Captain America , Captain Marvel , Generation X , Micronauts , Uncanny X-Men , Warlock and X-Factor .
