The Alberta Research Council (ARC) is a research institute of the provincial government of Alberta , Canada . The research and development center is funded by the provincial government. In January the institute was renamed Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures .

history

As the result of an initiative, Henry Marshall Tory opened the ARC Research Center in 1921 as the Alberta Council of Scientific and Industrial Research

Between 1921 and 1940, research was carried out mainly in geological areas of the province. The focus was on the extraction of oil from coal and oil sands. The extraction from coal has not caught on. So the research on the extraction of oil from oil sands was advanced. Canadian chemist Dr. In 1948 Karl A. Clark developed a patent with which the oil could be extracted from the oil sand deposits.

Research areas

The research center primarily focuses on the energy sector. This includes chemical, biological and nanotechnology research.
