Aldization

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Aldisierung refers to the discounter Aldi . The word was voted word of the year in Switzerland in 2005 . The jury explained the award by saying that Aldization does not only refer to the first new Aldi branches, but also describes a development in Switzerland as a whole, away from traditional Swiss quality awareness and towards price as the dominant criterion.

The phenomenon referred to is also the subject of investigation in the social sciences. It is defined as "the increasing search by even better-earning consumers for the cheapest offer in more and more areas of consumption". In addition, under the heading of aldization, the intensifying price and special offer competition in the retail sector as well as social effects such as the desertification of inner cities and the change in employment and consumer culture are examined.
