Alexandra of Egypt
Alexandra of Egypt was an ascetic who lived in Egypt in the 4th century AD . She had retired to a grave as a hermit. The name Alexandra comes from the Greek and means "the military woman".
She is venerated as a saint in the Coptic , Russian Orthodox and Catholic Churches.
Legend
According to legend, a young man fell in love with Alexandra. Since she did not reciprocate his feelings and did not want to offend him by refusing, she let herself be locked in a grave. In the crypt she spun flax , led a holy life and quoted holy men, prophets, patriarchs (church leaders), martyrs and the disciples of Jesus. She fasted and ate bread crusts.

The Catholic feast day of Alexandra of Egypt is April 21st .
