Alexei Wiktorowitsch Kallima ( Russian Алексей Викторович Каллима ; * 1969 in Grozny , Soviet Union ) is a Russian draftsman.

Life

From 1984 to 1988 he was trained in painting and drawing at the art school in Krasnodar . In the early 1990s in Grozny he witnessed the first Chechen war and the storm on the city. He then went to Moscow , where he has been the curator of Galerie France since 2001 .

Kallima's large-format pictures are mainly executed in mixed media, for example with pencil, charcoal and red chalk. Topics are war and the madness of war. The people of Chechnya are important to him. Kallima depicts them without historical or folkloric references. Kallima lives in Moscow.
