Ali al-Haidari

Ali al-Haidari ( Arabic علي الحيدري, DMG ʿAlī al-Ḥaidarī ; † January 4, 2005 in Baghdad , Iraq ) was an Iraqi politician and governor and mayor of Baghdad.

Al-Haidari was most recently responsible for the Baghdad region. An attack was carried out on him in September 2004, but he survived it. On January 4, 2005, he was murdered in the Hurriyya district of Baghdad. One of his bodyguards was also killed. A video showing the murder appeared on a website. In it, the terrorist group around the Jordanian Abu Musab al-Zarqawi takes responsibility for the attack. In November 2005, six suspects were arrested.
