Alibaba Pictures Group is a Chinese film company of the Alibaba Group . The film company was previously known as ChinaVision Media. In 2014, the Alibaba Group bought a 49% stake in the company and renamed it the Alibaba Pictures Group. By April 2015, it was the largest Chinese film company by market capitalization.

In March 2014, Alibaba Group acquired a 60 percent stake in ChinaVision Media for $ 805 million. Alibaba first registered a film company called the Alibaba Films Group before changing to Alibaba Pictures Group later in the month. Later that month, Alibaba Pictures entered into agreements with filmmakers and film companies, including director Wong Kar Wai and Hong Kong-based film production company Block 2.

The company bought Yueke and in late 2015 Taobao Movie and Yulebao. On October 9, 2016, Amblin Partners entered into an agreement with Alibaba in which Alibaba took a minority stake in the company and took on the marketing, distribution and merchandising of Amblin Partners' films in China, as well as co-financing of Amblin and DreamWorks films becomes. As described by the Financial Times, Amblin Partners and Alibaba Pictures have teamed up to "Fund, Produce, Promote and Distribute Films in China and Worldwide."

In July 2017, Alibaba increased its stake in Tao Piao Piao, an online ticketing platform, for 1.3 billion yuan from 87.6% to 96.7%.

In December 2018, Alibaba increased its stake to 50.92%, making it a majority shareholder.

Alibaba Pictures is listed on both the Hong Kong and Singapore Stock Exchanges .

In 2018, the company changed its fiscal year from the end of December to March of the following year. Thus, the company accounts for a 15 month period from January 2018 to the end of March 2019. The 2018/2019 film segment recorded losses of 221 million RMB compared to a nominal profit in the previous year. The company wants to focus on the production of higher quality content in the future. According to the official release in May 2019, the three largest external holdings of the Alibaba Pictures Group were shares in the production companies Bona Film Group, Hehe Pictures and Amblin Partners. In addition, it was revealed that Alibaba Pictures has loaned RMB 700 million ($ 101 million) to Huayi Brothers, one of the largest private production companies in China.
