The Breitbach is a creek about one kilometer long on both sides of the border of the districts Gründelhardt and Oberspeltach in the municipality of Frankenhardt in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in north-eastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows over half a kilometer downstream of the Oberspeltach outskirts from the left and north-northeast into the upper Speltach .

geography

course

The Breitbach begins its course in the Hörle forest of Gründelhardt about 1.2 km east of the church of Oberspeltach at about 456  m above sea level. NHN . The source is located at the beginning of a forest sounded just meters from the south-east corner of the hillside fields of the neighboring Gewanns Eichwald away and close to a leading south-southwest of agricultural road next to his slightly meandering in the forest run by the blade. The creek there is about three quarters of a meter wide, is lined with black alder, its bed is swampy and muddy.

After about half of its way, the stream reaches the western edge of the forest of the Hörles and follows this and the farm road that runs there a good hundred meters south. Then the stream bed stops. Beyond a damp, herbaceous strip on the eastern edge of a meadow in the adjoining Gewann Breite , the brook then continues, offset, into a dead straight, grassy ditch southwards through the meadow. It crosses under the L 2665 from Oberspeltach in the northwest to Fichtenhaus in the east and continues on the other side between the Gewannen Breite right and Fichte left in a straight line for about a hundred meters through meadows in the Speltachaue.

Then the Breitbach flows into a little below 419  m above sea level. NHN and thus about 37 meters below its origin after a 1.0 km long run with a mean bottom gradient of about 37 ‰ from the left into the upper Speltach , about 0.9 km after the confluence of the Speltach upper reaches on the southern edge of Oberspeltach and less than 0.2 km after the previous left river inlet Gronbach , which also comes out of the Hörle in a roughly parallel course. A stone's throw further down the Kirchbergbach flows from opposite.

The Breitbach is quite small, so not particularly wide; it is probably named after the river width it flows through . It has no tributaries.

Catchment area

The Breitbach has a narrow catchment area of only about 0.2 km² in size , extending from its highest point on a flat crest in the oak forest in the north-northeast about 1.2 km to the mouth in the south-southwest. About half of it, namely in the middle area, is wooded, in the upper area in Gewann Eichwald there are fields, in the lower area in the flat Speltachaue after a small field at the edge of the forest there are only meadows. The forest parts are in the Gründelhardter , the open ones in the Oberspeltach suburb of the municipality of Frankenhardt .

From a natural point of view, the unpopulated area lies entirely in the lower area of the Burgberg-Vorhöhen and Speltach Bay of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains . In this part of the Keuperbergland , the lowest layer of gypsum keuper ( grave field formation ) of the Middle Keuper is everywhere . From the floodplain edge of the Hörles to the district road in the Speltachaue, material relocated to an island lies above it, and beyond the district road is the alluvial clay tape accompanying the small river.

Behind the western watershed, the Gronbach , the next upper tributary of the Speltach, runs almost parallel at a distance of around 200 meters . On the east side in the greater part of the Hörles in the north are the headwaters of the downward Speltach tributary Hörlesbach , further south that of its tributary Fichtenbach .
