Alkali resistance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As alkali-resistant one is metal or a substance called, which in no or almost no base dissolves or is attacked by her.

Many metals, especially gold and platinum , but also corrosion-resistant metals such as tungsten , are alkali-resistant, as they form a protective layer on the surface when they come into contact with alkalis (e.g. caustic soda ), which makes them passivated . They can then no longer corrode and therefore cannot dissolve.
