Avenue district cemetery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An avenue district cemetery is a cemetery that is divided into mostly rectangular burial fields and the main paths are designed as avenues . Alley district cemeteries allow a very high occupancy density of the cemetery.

Usually a hierarchical grid of paths runs through the cemetery, whereby the width of the path decreases or increases with its importance. The most attractive grave sites were the areas on the outer walls, where monumental hereditary burials and mausoleums from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century have been preserved in many cemeteries . The grave sites on the main paths were mostly secured by the upper middle class, while the commoners found their resting place inside the quarters.

Other common types of cemetery are the churchyard as a cemetery in the immediate vicinity of the church, the park cemetery and the forest cemetery .
