Alleghenic orogeny
The Alleghanian orogeny from the upper carbon to Permian (300 mya ) is the latest stage of Variscan Orogenese in North America ( Laurentia ). In principle, the term is only used in connection with the geology of the Appalachians. The term Appalachian orogenesis is also synonymous in use. It represents the final collision of the northern continent Laurussia with Gondwana and thus one of the last phases of the formation of the global supercontinent Pangea .
Alleghenic orogenesis occurred roughly at the same time as the Variscan deformation events in Europe ("Variscan orogenesis sensu stricto ").
