In Judaism, the Holy of Holies refers to the room in which the Ark of the Covenant was kept. There was a Holy of Holies in the Mishkan and in the Jerusalem Temple .

It was only entered by the high priest once a year on Yom Kippur . In the Holy of Holies stood the Ark of the Covenant, which was covered with a lid with two cherubim at the ends .
