The General People's Committee ( Arabic اللجنة الشعبية العامة, DMG al-laǧna aš-šaʿbiyya al-ʿāmma ) acted as the Libyan government and was the secretariat for various Libyan ministries.

It served de jure as an intermediary between the leadership of the masses and the state leadership and consisted of twenty secretaries from around 600 local “ grassroots committees ” (BPC) with the assistance of its own general secretary . The members were elected by the country's parliament and did not have a fixed term of office.
