Alpen Adria Energie is an independent green electricity producer from Kötschach-Mauthen in Carinthia with over 11,000 customers (August 2011).
history
The company's predecessors have been generating green electricity since 1885 . In 1998 the family business was converted into a GmbH.
Power generation
Power sources are mainly small hydropower , biomass , wind and sun . The company works with numerous small power plant operators in Germany and abroad.
Hydropower
Three reservoirs below the Plöckenpass (Grünsee, Valentinsee and Cellonsee) serve as water reservoirs. They feed the power plants below. At the Valentinsee the hydrosolar power plant , a combination of renewable energies , shows the possibilities of ecological electricity generation: wind, water, biomass and sun. Alpen Adria Energie received the Eurosolar Prize for this project .
Biogas
A biogas plant officially went into operation in September 2005 . The biogas arrives in a pipe to the biomass center, where heat and electricity are generated.
Wind energy
There is a wind turbine on the Plöckenpass, just before the Italian border , and two more are planned. She recently entered into a partnership with the wind power operator Oekoenergie Wolkersdorf .
Photovoltaics
On the roof of the company headquarters, in the former Hotel Post, there is a photovoltaic system as well as a 20 kWp system at the town hall of Kötschach / Mauthen. About 600 PV systems (August 2011) from Naturstrom customers provide additional solar power.
Ownership
AAE is 75 percent owned by AAE Wasserkraft GmbH and 25 percent by Ökoenergie Beteiligungs-GmbH.
