The Alpha Aurigids are a meteor shower that can be observed from Central Europe from August 28th to September 5th . Comet C / 1911 N1 (Kiess) , which has an orbital period of approximately 2500 years, is used as the parent body .

The Radiant is during the activity period in the constellation Fuhrmann , with the Radiant always south of the star Capella is.

The ZHR of the Alpha Aurigids is usually 6 meteors per hour, but rates between 30 and 40 meteors per hour were recorded in 1935, 1986 and 1994. In 2007 there was a close passage between the earth and the orbit of the comet Kiess, whereby a ZHR of around 120 meteors per hour could be observed.
