Alphart

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alphart is the hero of the verse tale Alphart's death from the hero books .

The action takes place during the battle of the raven , in which Dietrich's army of Bern fights against that of Emperor Ermanrich in order to win back Dietrich's empire from him.

Wittich and Heime , who used to belong to Dietrich's comrades in arms, have fallen away from him and have joined Ermanrich. For this they are on an exploratory ride before the battle and come across an opposing knight who is on guard. They fight with him one after the other and are both defeated by him, but he spares their lives and wants to take them prisoner. Then they attack him together against the knightly honor and kill him. When they take off his helmet, they find out that their opponent is Alphart, who is only eighteen years old, a nephew of Hildebrand , the old armorer Dietrichs von Bern.

They leave the battlefield with a guilty conscience, and Alphart lies dead on the battlefield the whole day of the battle until Hildebrand finds him. Based on the traces of the sword blows, he can determine that they must have come from Wittich's sword Mimung . Since Alphart also has wounds on his back, he knows that he was killed by Wittich in an unfair fight.
