Altenburg Palace

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Altenburgsche Palais in Hanover was a palace at Lange Laube 15 in the 19th century . At the time of the Kingdom of Hanover , King George V bought the property in 1859 and had the house rebuilt for his father-in-law, Duke Joseph von Sachsen-Altenburg . The duke had previously renounced the throne in 1849 and has since lived in the royal seat of Hanover.

Soon afterwards, Josephstrasse , to which the Duke's garden was adjacent, was named after Duke Joseph .

In the place of the building there are now new buildings from the 2nd half of the 20th century.
