Kreuzkapelle

Kreuzkapelle

The Chapel of the Holy Cross dates back to 1618. It was built as an expiation chapel as a thank you for surviving a plague epidemic. It serves as a Catholic cemetery chapel in the Oberursel cemetery. In 1718 the chapel was fundamentally rebuilt and received its current appearance. During the renovation carried out by Pastor Lingmann, a gallery was built in and the open vestibule closed. The archbishop's cross of the diocese of Mainz is attached to the ridge.

Kreuzallee

Cross from 1739

Along the Adenauerallee and Frankfurter Landstrasse is the Kreuzallee, a path on which seven stations of Jesus' Way of the Cross are represented by crosses. The building was created by a donation from Vicar Nikolaus Kirsch in 1712. The beginning of the path is a cross erected in 1723 with a barely legible inscription. The end is an excellently preserved cross from 1739. Today it is located outside the cemetery in a green area on Homburger Straße. A small Lady Chapel in the middle of the path was demolished in 1904 to make room for the Gordon Bennett Cup .

In the middle of the cemetery is the great Calvary . According to tradition, it was built at the beginning of the 17th century. The crosses on the base, however, were probably renewed in 1802.
