The old Mödlinger Rathaus stands free in Schrannenplatz in the municipality of Mödling in the Mödling district in Lower Austria . The old town hall is used as a registry office. The building is a listed building .

history

The building was initially called Schranne like the square . A Gothic and late Gothic core is assumed in the 14th and 15th centuries, with an extension in the 17th century. The dendrochronological examination of the roof structure showed the year 1669. Modifications were made around 1700 and in the third third of the 19th century.

architecture

The two-storey town hall, standing free on the northwest side in Schrannenplatz, has a steep gable roof, which is hipped to the south and carries an asymmetrically attached tower to the gable facade.

The facade is not structured with irregular window axes with plastered cast stone blocks and a cordon cornice. Noteworthy is an open staircase with a Renaissance lattice with a three-arched groin-vaulted loggia on the upper floor with round arched arcades with Tuscan columns, which was reduced from five to three arcades by bricking up at the end of the 19th century. During the restoration in 1968, late medieval building details were exposed in the facade, in the east segment arch-like openings of former stalls, in the south a fragment of a profiled window garnish. The tower top, marked 1548, has a corner ashlar and chamfered rectangular windows and shows a renewed city coat of arms in relief, donated by Karl habenicht in 1905/06. The double onion helmet with a bell lantern and clapboard roofing was erected in 1747. The bell was cast by Joachim Gross in 1684. The east facade of the town hall shows a mural of St. Michael from the 16th century, restored in 1988, and a memorial plaque to Mayor Josef Thoma.

On the ground floor there is partially a pointed barrel vault from the end of the 14th / beginning of the 15th century, the other barrel vaults and groin vaults are from the 1st half of the 16th century. The late Gothic shoulder portal had an iron plate door, which is located in the district museum . The town hall on the upper floor with a ceiling medallion with a stuccoed double-headed eagle was enlarged in 1900 and restored in 1988. There are former detention rooms in the basement.
