Old town house (Winterthur)
The old town house is an early classical building at Marktgasse 53 in the old town of Winterthur . It is under cultural property protection (category B) and was built in 1790 by the architect Diethelm Schneider . Originally the hospital administration and the upper hospital in the rear building were located here . In 1967, city architect Karl Keller renovated the building. In 1972 the basement theater was opened, the artistic director was the director Albert Michel Bosshard until 2011 . He was followed by Udo van Ooyen and Doris Strütt . In 1999 the ombudsman of the City of Winterthur moved to the first floor, and a gold and silversmith's studio was set up on the ground floor. The large ballroom on the second floor has been used since 2014 for the musica aperta concert series .
