Aluchromists

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aluchromists were an artist group that was founded in 1961 in Brussels in the vicinity of Raf Cleeremans and existed until 1965. It also included German and Italian artists. In 1963 their office was 18, Boulevard Baudoin, Brussels 1. The group defined itself through the use of aluchromy .

history

In 1961 the Belgian artists Raf Cleeremans and Pierre Leloup created their first aluchromes after research and experiments with the support of gallery owner Raoul van Loo. In the same year Carlo Crivellaro, Octave Landuyt , Louis Tournay and Arié Mandelbaum joined them and formed the "Group of Aluchromists". The group's manager was the gallery owner Raoul van Loo. Their first joint project was the work Aluchromie 3, a cube with an edge length of 4 meters, which the group exhibited in December 1961 at place Rogier in Brussels. This was followed by group exhibitions in Brussels, Spa, Antwerp, in the Munich Art Association (1963) and at the III. Paris Biennale (1963). After 1965 the group loses its track. The aluchromists mostly worked non-representationally, but the commonly used aluchromy technique does not constitute any group style. There are aluchromists who work expressively and constructively. The aim of the group was "a general renewal of the contemporary concept of the role of art and the artists in society who are in the process of creating a form of beauty that is suitable for recognizing the future with the means of our time." Van Loo also wrote a manifesto for the group. With the breakup of the group, the use of aluchromy as a technique does not stop. Leopold Bosdorf was able to present his article on aluchromy in the trade journal of the German aluminum industry in 1970 with numerous works by artists with an even wider range of sticks. However, none of the artists listed has become known nationally or internationally.
