Alumina Limited is an Australian company headquartered in Sydney . The company is listed in the S & P / ASX 50 share index.

Alumina is primarily active in the mining of bauxite. In alumina factories, bauxite is used as the starting material for aluminum production by means of electrolysis of a mixture of alumina and cryolite in the so-called primary smelters. Alumina holds shares of such. Alumina was created in 2003 through a spin-off. Until then it belonged to the Australian company Western Mining .

For its part, Alumina holds a 40 percent stake in Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals (AWAC), of which Alcoa holds the remaining 60 percent. AWAC also mines bauxite in Australia.
