Amakuni

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amakuni ( Japanese 天国 ) is a Japanese swordsmith from the 8th century who is known as the father of Japanese swordsmithing. Its real existence cannot be proven.

Amakuni lived near Uta in the Yamato province at the time of Emperor Kanmu (781-806) and taught his son, the swordsmith Amakura ( 天 座 , also Amaza ) , who later became known . One of the swords attributed to them, the Kogarasu-maru , belonged to the Taira family treasure . It was inherited over many generations and is now part of the Japanese treasury.

Amakuni is said to have been the first Japanese swordsmith who signed the Erl (blade) (Nakago) of the sword, but there are no longer any blades with his signature.
