Amateur radio operator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amateur radio operator refers to a person who deals with radio technology , in particular broadcasting , exclusively from a hobby and hobby . This general expression can be used to mean both operators of a public radio station that does not require a license and that of an amateur radio station (radio amateurs).

In contrast, radio amateur is a legally defined term for a person who, after having passed an examination, has received approval from the competent authority to participate in the amateur radio service.

In common parlance, “amateur radio operator” and “radio amateur” are often used synonymously. Some radio amateurs reject the term "amateur radio operator" for radio amateurs as incorrect. Another part accepts it as a colloquial word that, according to the rules of the German word composition , could refer to radio amateurs (state-certified radio operator with special rights and duties who operates the radio out of hobby, i.e. as an amateur ).
